まず最初に言葉ありき。妄想から物語を書いた人物が瓦礫の村に住んでいた。彼は旅人や放浪者、行商人が通りかかると、その物語を本当の事として熱心に読んで聴かせた。やがて彼の話に騙された人々が集まり始め、旅人がもたらした様々な物語をパクって最初の話を膨らませながら、一定の思想を形成していく。やがてこの思想は宗教色を帯び、諸国を遍歴する人々の孤独と劣等感を慰め、自分たちは選ばれているという意識を芽生えさせた。

つまり、ユダヤ人というのは最初から実体のない、物語の中にだけ存在する放浪者のための架空の民族だったのではないだろうか。彼らは土地を奪われて離散したのではなく、最初から何のつながりもなく、あの地域を孤独に彷徨う者たちだったのでは？だから遺跡もなければ、共同体もなく、そんな実態などなかった。そんな風に思えて来た。歴史上に彼らの実態が見えてくるのは、紀元年をそれほど遡らないはずだ。
